ARE IN EARLY STAGE DEVELOPEMENT BUT OFFER GREAT POTENTIAL.
Negative refractive index materials-"Metamaterials"-could lead
to super lenses & novel dielectric/metal nano sensors. These sensors should have
selected plasmon surface resonance which can form a Ramon detectable surface
field. Binding at the surface can produce a resonance shift resulting in a new
and novel sensor for variety of materials and events.
Control of semiconductor magnetic spin direction-"Spintronnics"-offers
possible high speed computers which do not require booting. Such
technology can provide logic circuits and store high amounts of data.
Novel Smart Sensor designs are being developed to exploit
these technologies for Defense and Homeland Security requirements.
