PEL Attends Defense Industry/DOD Conference in Washington, DC
Groton, CT - PEL Associates attended the Beyond SBIR Phase II Conference in
Washington, DC the week of August 20, 2007. This event was by-invitation for
selected small businesses that had completed a Phase II SBIR Project with
prototype, and were candidates for Phase III Commercialization. The event at the
Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill was sponsored by the National Defense Industry
Association (NDIA) and Department of Defense (DOD). In attendance were senior
technology officers of the major prime defense contractors and DOD agencies.
Dr. Mort Wallach, President of PEL Associates presented a poster overview of PEL
technology and applications, and had two full days of one-on-one matchmaker
meetings with defense industry officials and government agency leaders. Prime
Contractors who we spoke with considered potential business partnerships to
compliment small business technology portfolio and extend it’s R&D efforts.
Government leaders sought innovative cutting edge technologies that fit
acquisition program needs. They hoped to utilize the ingenuity, flexibility, and
rapid response small businesses often provide to meet today’s ever-changing
mission needs.
Wallach presented four new PEL micro and nano sensor and coating technologies,
each with several applications including submarine detection (Phase II Project
sponsored by DARPA), port security, trace explosive detection, deicing aircraft,
and antifouling technology. PEL Associates is located at the Marine Sciences
Technical Center at the University of Connecticut in Groton, CT.
