Pure Polymer Chemistry
Dr. J. J. Schwab and coworkers at Edwards AFB and WPAFB have won the 1999 PEL
Associates Award for the best contribution in pure polymer chemistry in 1997.
The prize is for their joint work in developing novel hybrid
organic-inorganic nanoscale polyhedral silsesquioxane (POSS) reagents, and
demonstrating them in derived elastomeric polyurethanes which have many
desirable features.
The Award consists of this recognition of achievement, a certificate, and a
check for $150 to the Edwards AFB Materials R & D Department to be used for
books for their polymer chemistry library.
Dr. Schwab was chosen from among several hundred contributors to pure polymer
chemistry research worldwide.
Applied Polymer Chemistry
Prof. E. Giannelis has won the 1999 PEL Associates Award for the best
contribution in applied polymer chemistry in 1997.
The prize is for his work in developing new polymer composites with
nanoscopic silicate minerals which exhibit improved properties with important
industrial potential.
The Award consists of this recognition of achievement, a certificate, and a
check for $150 to the Cornell University Department of Material Science and
Engineering to be used for books for polymer chemistry students.
Prof. Giannelis was chosen from among several hundred contributors to applied
polymer chemistry research worldwide.
THESE RESEARCHERS HAVE OUR SALUTE FOR OUTSTANDING AND IMPORTANT
CONTRIBUTIONS TO POLYMER SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
